OVERVIEW

Mahogany Bay is a private cruise destination on the island of Roatan, Honduras. It opened in 2009 and is the result of a $62 million joint venture between Carnival Corporation and Roatan business man Jerry Hynds.
The resort is reminiscent in concept to the cruise destination developed by Carnival in Grand Turk. It is designed to be a tropical paradise for cruise passengers and offers many of the activities that cruise passengers like to do including going to the beach, shopping, watersports, etc.
It is separate from the rest of the island. Although guests can purchase shore excursions to other parts of the island, most guests choose to remain at the resort itself.
The 20 acre site is divided into two main areas. First, there is a shopping plaza with name brand stores. Second, there is the beach island with a long white sand beach, facilities, bars and cafes. The resort also boasts such things as a dolphin encounter, a zip line, a nature trail, and various types of watercraft.

THE CRUISE PORTCruise ships dock in a bay next to the resort. In fact, Mahogany Bay's two piers come together at the entrance to the resort. Guests simply walk ashore.
Mahogany Bay can handle two post-Panamax cruise ships at a time. Pictured below are Carnival Liberty (above right) and Carnival Magic (below right) docked at Mahogany Bay. Since Mahogany Bay was built by Carnival Corporation, the majority of the ships calling there belong to the various Carnival brands such as Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises. However, other non-Carnival ships occasionally call there. |
