LONDON, ENGLAND
Nelson's Column, London, England
Picture
Dr. Samuel Johnson once said "When a man is tired of London , he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford."  And what was true in the 18th century is true today.  Although no longer the capital of a mighty empire, London is alive with art, music, theater, and fashion as well as lots and lots of history.

On this page, we provide links to the articles that we have written about London.  In addition, there is an alphabetical index (with links) of the attractions mentioned in the articles.  There are also topical indexes that group articles by subject.

The articles are based upon the numerous visits that we have made to London over the last half century.  Much has changed during this time but there is a timeless quality to London.

Picture
Central London is very walkable with many of the attractions clustered together.  Walking also makes it easier to sample the atmospheres of London's various neighborhoods.  However, London also has very good public transportation with plentiful buses and an extensive subway (The Tube).  There are also tour boats on the Thames, which runs through the center of London.  And although somewhat expensive, the London taxis really know how to get around.

It is possible, but rather difficult, to spend a few hours in London during a cruise ship port call in one of the major British cruise ports.  Thus, for cruise travelers, London is primarily of interest as a destination before or after the cruise.
