ST. THOMAS

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

WALKING TO CHARLOTTE AMALIE FROM HAVENISGHT

Once through the Yacht Haven gate, continue straight ahead.

Near the entrance are stands selling refreshments.  Further on, the shops often have interesting displays in the windows.  There is no prohibition against pausing to investigate.

Soon you come to what appears to be a plaza.  To the left, is an entrance to a pier.  To the right, is the way to the parking lot and the city streets.  Straight ahead appears to be a deadend.  However, behind the Louis Vitton shop is a passage that continues the way to downtown.

After the passage, the shops give way to a park-like area that includes a swimming pool on the right hand side.

Continue along the path over a wooden bridge that straddles a small inlet. Take a glance over the side of the bridge as sometimes there is wildlife in the inlet.

The path continues on the other side of the bridge.  Here, there are some park benches, convenient for taking a break and watching what is happening out in the bay.

At the end of the Yacht Haven path is a gate, marking our next turning point.  Turn left here.

The path now runs along beside the road that leads into Charlotte Amalie.  It is a busy road but the sidewalk is wide.

The path bends to the right at an abandoned building and then again to the left as it passes the courthouse for United States District Court for the District of the Virgin Islands.

Across the bay, you can see the cruise ships docked at Havensight.

Straight ahead, the path runs between the Legislative building on the left and Fort Christian on the right.  Once past these landmarks, you are in downtown.

Vendors Plaza is across the street and the main shopping district is one block inland on Main Street.

To return to Havensight, simply look for the road that runs between the Legislature and Fort Christian and follow the path back to the Yacht Haven gate.  Turn right at the gate and continue on until you come to the gate at the opposite end of the path.  Turn right and follow the security fence until you come to the gate for your cruise ship.
