About a half hour ride from the cruise port is Coral World Ocean Park. This attraction covers five acres and includes aquarium exhibits and various marine-related activities.
Its centerpiece is the Undersea Observatory Tower located 100 feet from shore. Visitors descend a spiral staircase 15 feet to a room below the waterline where there are large windows that look out onto a coral reef. The undersea life on the opposite side of the window are free to come and go as they like and so you can never be shore what you will see. The park also has a building with 21 individual aquariums as well as an 800,000 gallon aquarium that recreates a coral reef. Outdoor tanks have turtles, sting rays and sharks. There is also a "Touch Pool" where visitors can handle various sea creatures. An aviary houses tropical birds. Coral World also offers a number of activities including Sea Trek, where visitors can don helmets and walk the ocean floor as well as a swim with sea lions experience. The park is nicely landscaped with tall palms shading much of the area. Adjacent to Coral World is Coki Beach and visitors often combine a stop at Coral World with some time at the beach. |
