The Reversing Falls (also known as the Reversing Rapids) is the most popular tourist attraction in Saint John, New Brunswick. Nearly every tour goes there. Also, it is a pleasant walk from the cruise port to the Falls. (See article).
The Falls is a stretch of the Saint John River where the river meets the Bay of Fundy. Most of the time, the River empties into the Bay as rivers normally do. However, at high tide, the waters of the Bay overpower the River's current and cause the River to flow upstream (i.e. to reverse direction).
Probably the most spectacular spot to see this phenomenon is from the top of the gorge overlooking this section of the River. However, there is also a viewing area at Fallsview Park before the River enters the gorge.
In this video we see the River from atop the gorge both when the current is flowing downstream and when it is flowing upstream. It also shows the view from Fallsview Park when the River is flowing downstream.
