Olden is a tiny village of about 1,000 people lying at the end of the Nordfjord. It is a quiet place that remains uncommercialized with most of the inhabitants engaged in farming.
Cruise ships can dock in Olden at a pier not far from the village. It is interesting to see life proceeding at a slower pace than in the world's cities. The most interesting thing about this walking around this area is the mountains that surround this valley. These are jagged, rough and rocky peeks. They can be enduring a howling winter storm while it is Springtime in the valley below. Olden is also a staging point for tours to the Birksdal Glacier, that is 15 miles away. The way to the glacier passes rivers and mountains formed by glacial runoff that has a green color. Nearby is northern Europe's deepest lake - - Hornindalvatnet. |
Clouds and storms can rage on the mountains and suddenly break into sunshine.
